Sustainability has long been at the centre of what we do
At Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation, minimising damage to the natural world is a high priority, with our operation centred around an aim of leaving a positive impact on the environment and supporting our industry through offering top quality, low carbon solutions as we work collaboratively towards our common goal of a net zero future.
With a robust manufacturing operation and facilities that are strategically located across the country, we operate at a substantial scale, all while ensuring high-quality production while minimising our environmental impact and carbon emissions.
Our extensive, award-winning product range - much of which is produced using recycled material - has been designed and manufactured to encourage a safer, more sustainable future.
Our Best Kept Secret
Recycling is a key element of our operation, and our in-house recycling journey began back in 2011, when we invested in twin-screw compounding capability to turn plastic flake into pellet and then into pipe.
In 2013, we purchased our very own polymer processing plant. Fast forward to today, the plant is no longer a secret but a well celebrated part of our business. Located in a purpose-built building at our Horncastle site, it sorts, washes and recycles HDPE (in the form of post-consumer bottles, like milk and bleach bottles) to facilitate their transformation into the high-quality, expertly engineered pipes that we’re renowned for.
Using Recycled Materials Where Possible
Our polymer processing plant offers traceability and inherently lowers carbon impacts in our products, as well as enhancing the circularity of the polymers. Through the plant, we're saving hundreds of millions of plastic bottles from going to landfill, every single year. We’re able to give these bottles a new life, with many of our products having an extended life cycle of over 60 years.
- 170,000,000 Milk bottles recycled per year at our Polymer Processing Plant in Horncastle
- 80% Products made from recycled content
- 12 Local schools & businesses on our Wash & Squash programme
- 2x Winner of the Worshipful Company of Builders Merchants Caring for the Environment Award
Best in Class EPDs
We have proudly achieved 95% Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) coverage across our product range – a significant milestone in our journey to becoming the lowest carbon supplier of choice.
EPDs – comprehensive assessments of a product’s environmental impact throughout its lifecycle – offer credibility and transparency and, by credibly assessing the environmental performance of our products, we not only reinforce our commitment to sustainability but empower our customers with credible data to make informed, low-carbon choices.
Greener Transport
We are committed to reducing our transport operation’s carbon footprint and one way in which we are doing this is by transitioning to electric and HVO-powered vehicles, which help to cut emissions and improve fuel efficiency.
Demonstrating our ongoing commitment to sustainability, safety and efficiency, we’re proud to hold FORS (the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) Gold accreditation – an achievement held by just 5% of operators.
On our sites, we’ve also installed EV charging stations, supporting sustainable travel and making it easier for our employees to opt for electric vehicles.
Commitment at Every Level
As part of the Genuit Group, we’re signed up to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTIs), which is an international commitment aiming to achieve net zero by 2050 and something that the entire Group is working closely (internally and with our customers) to achieve our pledge to ensure global warming is limited to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
We are aiming to reduce our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 33% by 2027, and our goal is to source 100% of our energy from renewable sources by 2027 through to 2030.
