A longstanding relationship and a string of successful collaborations with the Jackson Civil Engineering team led Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation to provide products in the form of Ridgidrain and Ridgiduct Lighting to the road improvement scheme. These tried and tested drainage and cable protection solutions are all manufactured from 100% recycled HDPE and are accompanied by supporting Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), making them a perfect sustainable choice for the job.
In December 2024, Jackson Civil Engineering were appointed to construct a new roundabout on the A43 in Towcester, Northamptonshire. The scheme is part of a wider project in which a new relief road will connect to the A43, reducing traffic in Towcester town centre and enhancing both safety and traffic flow in the area.
“Twinwall pipe is generally our ideal solution,” Jason Gibson, Jackson Civil Engineering’s Project Manager, said, adding “this is because they’re quick and easy to install and are also a relatively lightweight solution in comparison to alternative, traditional materials – especially for stormwater and filter pipe solutions.
“The key challenge on this project is that we are in such close proximity to Silverstone circuit, so we’ve had to phase our works to retreat around major events on the Silverstone calendar (namely, the Moto GP and Formula 1), ensuring that traffic flows in and out of the circuit are not disrupted. This means that the scheme has taken longer than usual but we’ve worked with Silverstone, their traffic management supplier and National Highways to find a suitable solution which, in this case, was to split the programme of works into six phases, with the installation of Polypipe CGU drainage taking place in phases two and four, and ducting in phases two, four and five.
“It’s certainly a busy scheme, with a lot of stakeholders to keep on side but, on the whole, the project is going well, and we remain on course with our phase completion dates, with the overall scheme expected to complete in Spring 2026.”
On the Jackson team’s experience with Polypipe CGU, Josh Crown, Buyer at Jackson Civil Engineering, said “We hold an agreement with Polypipe CGU, managed by Lee Woodcock, which is great. For this project, we placed our order through a merchant – Keyline – and it’s been a seamless process. The order set up was easy, deliveries have gone smoothly, and the service has gone well so it’s been a really good experience, and we’d definitely recommend.”
“This is a fantastic project to have been a part of,” Lee Woodcock, Polypipe CGU’s Key Account Manager, said, “working with the team at Jackson Civil Engineering, and with our extensive product offering, we’ve been able to provide best-in-class drainage solutions and also support with their ducting requirements, which support the low carbon journey that Mark Scrivener [Jackson Civil Engineering’s Head of Procurement] and the wider Jackson team are striving for. Plus, the improved traffic flow will bring huge community benefits for Towcester, which is fantastic.”
