Early involvement enabled the Polypipe CGU team to create an underground attenuation solution that met the exact needs of Story Homes and was quickly accepted for inclusion into a Section 104 agreement.
Polypipe CGU offered a value engineered 95m³ attenuation tank designed within a Public Open Space. The multi-leg attenuation tank was created from Polypipe CGU’s market-leading 1200mm Ridgistorm-XL large diameter pipe system, incorporating a range of pre-fabricated fittings, including a 1500mm diameter offset chamber and a 1500mm diameter Stormcheck Vortex Flow Control Chamber set to the site’s required discharge rate.
The Ridgistorm-XL system was installed using Polypipe CGU’s unique electro-fusion welding process. Whilst the original specification required the manufacturer to join the pipes once installed, this method meant that the client was able to carry out the welding process, speeding up the installation and reducing the work that needed to be undertaken within the confined space.
Malcolm Lamont, Project Manager for Story Contracting (another Story-owned business), said: “Our original design involved a separate concrete chamber and manholes, which would have required substantially more time and equipment to install than the Polypipe CGU solution. Designing-out the separate concrete chambers and incorporating them into the tank saved costs by making the tank easier and quicker to install.”
