Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation [Polypipe CGU] has devised a water drainage and attenuation solution at the site of MPS Builders Merchants’ newest depot in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.

Working closely with MPS and main contractor Parkway Construction from an early design stage, Polypipe CGU’s water management experts utilised 165m of their market-leading Ridgistorm-XL 1200mm pipes and seals to create a bespoke 190m³ attenuation tank capable of storing the required six litres per second discharge allowable from the site.

The exceptional strength and design flexibility offered by the Ridgistorm-XL system meant that the tank could be intelligently engineered in line with both the site depth available and storage volumes required, providing cost savings for both material and installation.

The Ridgistorm-XL seal connection method, made up of two SBR rubber seals inserted into the spigot end of the pipe, meets the requirements of BS EN 1277 (the standard test method for leak tightness of elastomeric sealing ring type joints in buried non-pressure applications).

To assist the flow of excess water off site, Polypipe CGU’s complimenting Ridgidrain surface water drainage system and Stormcheck Flow Control Chamber, which enables to prescise control of site discharge rates, were also installed on the site.
